Tips for our precious milkmaids
Question: My milk smells and tastes totally different after I freeze it, why?
Answer: The trick is not to freeze your milk immediately after you pump but to rather let it chill in the fridge and then freeze it. This avoids the decomposition of an enzyme which is the source of the soapy odor. Also, double bag your milk when in the freezer.
Question: I was told by my lactation consultant to boil my milk before freezing it. Should I do this?
Answer: Breast milk should not be heated up to much less boiled because the nutrients in it are killed once it reaches a certain temperature, and on top of that freezing it also kills some of its nutrients, so it is not a good idea to boil it before freezing.
